Retinitis pigmentosa

Hello Kelly,

1- Retinitis pigmentosa is a terrible disease, blinding
people in their 20’s. I read the story of such a person and
loosing your eyesight so young is tragic. As far as I know,
there is no cure for it.

2- Most serious diseases are the result of a defective
gene. This is the case for cancer, heart conditions,
rheumatic diseases, etc.

3- Retinal detachments, as I suffered, are also inherited,
as my mother’s father had a retinal detachment in the same
eye a few years before his death in 1959. It is estimated
that some 5% of all adults over the age of 40 will
experience a retinal detachment, mostly for genetic
reasons.
